Text Box: The Anthology of Poetry by Young Americans is a book published each year comprised of various poems written by children in the 8-13 age range. Each school that wished to enter could send the top two or three submissions from their students in, and then the best of those from all the poems received appeared in the anthology. 
Kyler King wrote a poem submitted it and it was published in the Anthology of Poetry by Young Americans book 2009 edition.

Text Box: The Baker Louisiana Fire Department sponsors a poster contest each year. The contest winners are awarded prizes and plaques of recognition for their school. This contest enables the Fire Safety personnel to interact with elementary age children throughout the City of Baker Louisiana, educating them in fire safety and prevention. The children are able to express their ideas on fire safety with creative art.
 
 
Lailah Smothers 8 years old won 1st place on the 2nd grade level for her poster.
 
 
Her poster is on display at the Baker Fire Department. Fire Cheif Danny Edwards awared her with a plaque and gift cards from Walmart. Her poster will be on display for one year.
